Ritardanti di fiamma e additivi per espansi
Il core business dell’azienda sono i ritardanti di fiamma, con una gamma particolarmente sviluppata per il settore degli espansi, dove i requisiti di sicurezza al fuoco sono tra i più stringenti. Greenchemicals copre un ampio spettro di substrati – EPS, XPS, XPS food, XPE, XPE reticolato, XPU e XPP – con soluzioni halogen-free capaci di garantire le prestazioni richieste dalle normative senza compromettere le caratteristiche del materiale. Gli additivi non si limitano però alla funzione antifiamma: alla gamma FR si affiancano antiossidanti, stabilizzatori UV, agenti espandenti, processing aids e altri ausiliari che intervengono nelle diverse fasi di lavorazione, migliorando la stabilità del processo e la qualità del prodotto finale. Un approccio integrato che permette di rispondere alle esigenze specifiche di ciascuna applicazione, dalla coibentazione edilizia all’imballaggio alimentare.
Gomme e impact modifier: la collaborazione con Celloplast
Dal 2025 Greenchemicals ha ampliato il proprio raggio d’azione nel mondo delle gomme attraverso la partnership con Celloplast, azienda con oltre cinquant’anni di esperienza negli elastomeri termoplastici e termoespandenti. La sinergia tra il know-how di Celloplast sulle proprietà elastomeriche e la specializzazione di Greenchemicals nella formulazione di additivi su misura, ha portato allo sviluppo di nuovi impact modifier: soluzioni in grado di preservare le caratteristiche meccaniche all’impatto anche in condizioni di processo impegnative. Un risultato particolarmente rilevante anche per i materiali rigenerati, che senza un supporto additivo mirato tendono a perdere parte delle prestazioni tipiche dei materiali vergini.
ITA Polymers: la filiera circolare in rete
La collaborazione con Celloplast è stata anche il punto di partenza per un progetto più ambizioso: la nascita di ITA Polymers, rete di imprese costituita nella primavera 2026 con Greenchemicals come capofila. Oltre alle due aziende, ne fanno parte DIAP, GF Plast, MIFE, Pick Up, Polichem e Seta Polymers; otto realtà italiane che insieme coprono l’intera filiera circolare della plastica, dagli scarti industriali trasformati in materie prime secondarie certificate, fino ai compound riciclati, agli additivi e ai masterbatch pronti a rientrare nel ciclo produttivo. Chiude il quadro la quarta edizione della Polymer Additives Academy, il ciclo di workshop gratuiti che Greenchemicals dedica ogni anno a professionisti del settore e studenti universitari. Tre i pomeriggi in programma: fire safety & building il 10 settembre alla SUPSI di Mendrisio, phase out & sustainability il 29 ottobre al Politecnico di Milano e plastic recycling il 26 novembre presso gli impianti di Polichem a Garlasco.

Partnerships and customised formulations for the future of plastics

Achieving a high-performance polymer is not just about choosing the right resin: it means controlling every stage of the production process and ensuring that the material’s properties are retained in the finished product. It is in this space, between the raw material and the final application, that additives play a decisive role. Greenchemicals, a company based in Desio (MB) specialising in the development of solutions for the plastics industry, has been working in this field for years, combining in-house research, strategic partnerships and a constant focus on sustainability.
Flame retardants and additives for foams
The company’s core business is flame retardants, including a range developed specifically for the foam industry, where fire safety requirements are among the most stringent. Greenchemicals offers halogen-free solutions for a wide range of substrates, including EPS, XPS, food-grade XPS, XPE, cross-linked XPE, XPU and XPP. These solutions meet the performance requirements of regulations without compromising the properties of the material. However, the additives are not limited to their flame-retardant function: the FR range is complemented by antioxidants, UV stabilisers, blowing agents, processing aids and other auxiliaries that improve process stability and the quality of the final product at various stages of processing. This integrated approach enables the company to meet the specific requirements of each application, from building insulation to food packaging.
Rubbers and impact modifiers: The partnership with Celloplast
Since 2025, Greenchemicals has expanded its presence in the rubber industry by collaborating with Celloplast, a company with over fifty years of experience in thermoplastic and thermosetting elastomers. The combination of Celloplast’s knowledge of elastomeric properties and Greenchemicals’ expertise in formulating bespoke additives has resulted in the creation of new impact modifiers. These modifiers can preserve mechanical properties upon impact, even under challenging processing conditions. This is a particularly significant result for recycled materials, which tend to lose some of the performance characteristics typical of virgin materials without the support of a targeted additive.
ITA Polymers: The circular supply chain network
Collaborating with Celloplast was the starting point for an even more ambitious project: the creation of ITA Polymers, a network of companies founded in spring 2026, with Greenchemicals as the lead organisation. In addition to the two companies, the network includes DIAP, GF Plast, MIFE, Pick Up, Polichem and Seta Polymers; eight Italian companies that together cover the entire circular plastics supply chain. This includes the transformation of industrial waste into certified secondary raw materials and the production of recycled compounds, additives and masterbatches ready to re-enter the production cycle. Every stage is traceable and every output is certified, with a single point of contact for customers (www.ita-polymers.it).

Production and training. The Polymer Additives Academy is back!
Rounding off the programme is the fourth edition of the Polymer Additives Academy: a series of free workshops organised by Greenchemicals every year for industry professionals and university students. Three sessions have been scheduled: ‘Fire Safety & Building’ on 10 September at SUPSI in Mendrisio; ‘Phase Out & Sustainability’ on 29 October at Politecnico di Milano; and ‘Plastic Recycling’ on 26 November at Polichem’s facilities in Garlasco.
